This ADU was purpose-built for multigenerational living, not just squeezed into a backyard. The family bought the property specifically to support a full-time second residence — and we took full advantage. A dynamic roofline adds visual punch from the main house, while the light-filled, open interior is perfect for everything from impromptu grandkid visits to slow morning coffee. Custom built-in storage makes full-time occupancy in a small space seamless, and a private deck flows into the shared yard for informal outdoor living.

We reimagined the kitchen of this classic Elmwood Craftsman home to include a strong connection to the owner’s beloved garden. Floor to ceiling glass, custom cabinetry and a fully tiled wet bath are highlights of this project. Wide plank white oak floors incorporate radiant heat. Details from the owner’s travels and lives include a custom tile backsplash and built in seating constructed of wind felled Acacia from the property.

Client Testimonial

Ben & Manzanita Design Build created a splendid house for us. Every aspect is beyond our hopes and expectations. Ben’s design captures so much of what we asked for, both in function and feeling. And it adds so much we couldn't even have thought to ask for, in the way of grace and style and symmetry and presentation, indoor and outdoor. The process of working with Ben and his whole team has been amazing, and amazingly satisfying. His up-front layout of how the process would unfold – and timeline and budget – was incredibly on-target. And our experience of working through questions that arose was so positive, we've had to pinch ourselves over and over.
